About Me

Hi friends! My name is Walker Rose, and I am currently a junior at UNCW majoring in Business Administration with concentration in Human Resources and Management and a minoring in English! I'm looking forward to the upcoming year! Here are a few things about me to get you started:
- I was born in Raleigh, North Carolina, but have grown up in Greensboro, North Carolina (the greatest city in America).
- I'm a lover of all sports, but soccer has been my love since day one. I'm a supporter of Manchester United and will go out of my way to cheer on the USA in international play. I'm also a player, and always looking to get out and shoot around, let me know if you want to play!
- I have a slight obsession with this band called Kings of Leon. I've seen them three times, in three different states. My love for them knows no bounds, and I will do anything to see them live. Check out "California Waiting" and "Knocked Up" if you are interested in some good music.
- I'm a camp counselor at a summer camp called Camp Cheerio, located in the mountains of North Carolina. I have worked there for now 5 years, and love every chance I have to go up there. It has been an impactful line of duty for me and I love sharing the many stories I have.
- I'm a very goal oriented person, and set goals that I hope to achieve later down the road. My major goal for my time at UNCW is to make as many friends as possible, and keep strong bonds going even after graduation.
You're lucky that you get to go to such an amazing university, UNCW has become my home over the last two years, as it will for you all as you get settled into everything. And like most universities, UNCW has some very special traditions that make everything unique and special to us all. From Oozeball, to Move-In, there is so much that makes UNCW one of a kind. My favorite tradition has to be Beach Blast, an all day beach day offered for students at the beginning of the fall semester. That's what makes UNCW so special, the beach! Get some friends together and make a day of it, nothing is cooler than seeing 1,000 people all hanging out at the beach together.
To all of the incoming freshman, there is so much advice I can give to you all to help you get off to a great start this year, here are some of the highlights:
- Go to class. I can't stress this enough, you're here to learn, not to play around. Hit the books and study hard, my favorite place to study is the third floor of the Education Building, gives you some needed peace and quiet. So get your diploma and make momma proud!
- Go outside, try new things, be open to new experiences. This isn't an excuse to make terrible decisions, but college gives you the chance to do so many dope things, from clubs to sports to anything you can think of. Live it up, it's the best 4 years of your life.
- Finally, as stressful as this whole college thing can get, remember that life goes on. Take some time for you and don't let the stress get to you. If it does, there are plenty of resources who can help you out, including myself. College is supposed to be fun and exciting, not a death trap.
